Overview Course

This course is an examination of the basic tenets of Montessori philosophy through the exploration of Dr. Montessori’s deep understanding of the early years of life. Using the seminal texts The Secret of Childhood and The Discovery of the Child, videos of working Montessori classrooms, and other resources, adult learners will learn about the goals of Montessori education, the characteristics of the child in the first six years of life, and how each component of the Montessori system contributes to the whole. We will explore the role of the teacher as a guide and undertake exercises in observation. Each module will involve a text, video and/or audio, an experiential exercise, and a reflection. Contact with the instructor will take place via e-mail. Participants are responsible for purchasing the two supplementary books: The Secret of Childhood by Maria Montessori and The Discovery of the Child by Maria Montessori.

We’re excited to offer an updated model, featuring two distinct tracks designed to better meet your needs:

1. Accelerated Track (January 1, 2025 – April 5, 2025):
   This track includes more rigorous deadlines to help keep you on pace for an expedited completion.
2. Year-Long Track (January 1, 2025 – December 31, 2025):
   Similar to our current format but streamlined to 12 months instead of 18 months. This track will feature suggested deadlines to guide you throughout the course duration.

A $225 multi-course discount is applied to applicants of both the Overview course and Introduction to Secondary Montessori, bringing the total for both to $800.
