About CMS: In 2007, Central Montessori School of Virginia opened its doors to its first four students in the historic and beautiful neighborhood of Church Hill in Richmond, VA.  We have grown over the years and serve 140-150 students ranging in age from 3 months to 14 years in our whole school community. We are located in a dynamic urban area within walking distance of the James River, beautiful parks, local restaurants, and state government, medical, and university centers.

Position Description: We are seeking an individual to join our program as a middle school lead teacher.

Learning the ropes and acclimating to new systems can take some time. You don’t need to know it all, but you must be willing to put effort and intention into this important position.

The middle school lead teacher will support students in their academic studies, coordinate experiential education opportunities, including service learning, and organize at least two overnight trips yearly for our annual Washington D.C. and camping trips. Additionally, the educator will work with other middle school members and support teachers, administrators, and outside educators.

This position is best suited for an individual who is comfortable researching and learning new things, able to work with others in a manner consistent with Central Montessori Schools’ philosophy and policies, can work in a partnership with students and colleagues, and is patient with self and others.

Applicant’s Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Prior experience working with children
  • Awareness of Montessori philosophy and willingness to take additional professional development and training

Applicant’s Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree and/ or Montessori Certification
  • Prior experience working with students 9-18 years of age
  • Experience working in a Montessori program
  • Bilingual or multilingual (Spanish language preferred)

Full-time lead teacher schedule (36-40 hours per week)

  • Monday – Friday 8-5
  • One paid half day per week
  • 1 (unpaid) hour-long lunch break mid-day

Salary is compensatory with AMS annual salary survey parameters based on experience, training, and education.
