This is a unit study of detective fiction. It begins with the history of the detective novel, the father of the detective novel, Edgar Allen Poe. Students explore Poe’s archetype detective and then compare him to other detectives. Students also look at the formula of detective fiction and relate it to modern television shows, from Psyche to Dr. Who to Monk.
