This interdisciplinary cycle contains all components for algebra I, physical science, language, and civics. The science portion focuses on an introduction to physical science via the First Great Lesson. It continues with activities covering the scientific method, atomic theory and structure, and the Periodic Table. Civics focuses on the fomation and structure of the U.S. government, including the Enlightenment, Declaration of Independence, and Constitution. Language focuses on setting up Nancie Atwell’s Reading/Writing Workshop system. In addition to writing process and plot structure, genres taught include flash fiction and book reviews. Also included are two group initiatives, (group juggling and quick reverse), an out-of-school opportunity at an apiary with accompanying work packet, and a culminating project involving mind-mapping and making puzzles.
