Using objects owned by Frederick Douglass and his family, students will explore his life and his place in history. They will read excerpts from one of his autobiographies, such as My Bondage and My Freedom and from some of his influential speeches. This field study will be part of a larger exploration of ways that our cultural origins frame our understandings of our own lives and the lives of others.
