This course is taught as a year-long, independent, research project. It culminates with a multimedia presentation to the seniors, a 15-25 page research paper, a product (varies greatly), and a Senior Project Night where the community comes and hears what each senior has done. Students learn how to do college-level research, manage their time to meet deadlines that are weeks and even months away, and create something original.
The English teacher helps A LOT with this project…she grades students on grammar, formatting, and technique, as well as helping evaluate their presentations. She also helps incorporate their project into our grade-level cycle thematic lessons and Montessori curriculum. The English curriculum also pairs nicely with Theory of Knowledge, as each course takes students through various themes around perception and truth.
