This term we will be looking at change makers in history and literature: from the dueling orators of Julius Caesar to the emigrants to what would become the thirteen colonies. We will explore the motivations behind uniting those colonies, and the uprisings within them that in turn led to revolution. We will read about the adventures of Revolutionary Era African American slaves and Patriot Soldiers in the novel Forge, and explore the costs of the War of 1812. As we watch the nation grow, we’ll witness the development of expansionist politics, and see the ideals of the revolution tested.
