Over five days, students will travel to & from Chicago, IL
to observe, study, sketch, and learn the architectural and artistic
history of this massive urban environment. Students will read
‘Devil in the White City’ in literary preparation for exploration
of southern Chicago, then choose one of four foci within the space:
rail transit, skyscrapers, landscape, or commerce.
Touring Chicago, students will use their preparation to
observe and explore the contemporary environment while enjoy-
ing some of the city’s faire. Photography and illustration will be
key artistic components of the learning experience. This trip will
allow students to develop a body of knowledge about urban
environments, and permit that comparison to their more local
urbania.
